Sleep Like A Baby Tonight

Sometimes, you can't identify the holes that need to be filled until you have fallen through them.

By sharing the stories below, I've tried to raise questions that I don't hear being asked enough, and to start a conversation about issues that pertain both to healthcare and a number of other institutions in this country that struggle with shame, fear, recognizing people's humanity, and the abuse of power. Conversely, I believe all of us - both individually and as a whole - have untapped resources of joy, trust, and emotional well-being that can heal a multitude of wounds and move us forward in new and profound ways.

I wrote the first ten posts below in 2017, and then the next five during the turbulent summer of 2020. I’m now at Candler School of Theology, with the goal of becoming a hospital chaplain when I finish my studies. I’m being challenged in many new ways, and will write when I can. For new readers, my blog makes more sense if you start at the beginning with post #1. 6) The Price of Poverty

In other words, whether we want to admit it or not, people with less money get worse care, which not only affects their health but other aspects of their lives. The reason I am experiencing these breakdowns in care coordination with such overwhelming frequency is because I am currently part of the "safety net population", and therefore have fewer choices about where and how I receive my care.
